Drop Off Service. It's on 13th and A. It's a great more low key bar, and it has one of the best tap selections in all of the East Village.

Lakeside Lounge is always fun. Even with live bands and a great jukebox, I would still consider this place laid back.

Big Bar, on 7th and 1st. Small, unpretentious, always-mysteriously-empty place with friendly people and lighting that makes everyone look good.

Mama's Bar on the corner of 3rd and Ave. B. It is usually not very crowded and has nice large couches to sit down on. "

I'm a fan of The Immigrant on 9th between 1st and 2nd, which is a little on the ""dark and cozy"" side (e.g. can be a bit of a date bar) but is very unpretentious and is a great spot for a drink. For something a little more unpretentious, there's Tile Bar on the northwest corner of 1st and 7th -- PBRs and a jukebox without the moderate-to-questionable sketchiness of some of the East Village's popular dives. "

The Bourgeois Pig is great for wine / sangria - has the type of atmosphere you're looking for. (mid-range price)

Try Mayahuel if you like tequila and Cienfuegos if you like rum. (pricey)

Common Ground is a more traditional laid back bar for a drink - couches to relax on in the back. (standard bar pricing)

The Bowery Hotel is great in winter - sit by the fireplace, if you can (pricey)

d.b.a. on First Ave is excellent.  Phenomenal beer selection, solid whiskey selection as well.  Can get busy after 10pm on weekends, but other than that, it's great, one of my favorite  places in the neighborhood.http://www.quora.com/What-is-the-best-laid-back-bar-in-New-Yorks-East-Village#"" id=""__w2_brqPsVb_inline_editor_link"">
